![]() All this and the gasser fits in the cowls just as well or better than the glo engines. Gassers really pull in the mid RPM ranges where the glo engines are much happier in the upper speed ranges. Add to that the gassers have a much more user friendly torque curve than most any glo engine. The gasser also vibrates much less than the Saito. maybe a few ounces lighter with the gasser. Fuel consumption / cost dropped from $3.00+ per flight to maybe $.50 per flight for the gasser and the airplanes flew the same though they had more usable power with the gasser. From day one there was considerable more usable power and especially brute pulling power with the change from the 18-6 prop on the Saito to a 19 - 6 to 8 on the DLE. Some years ago, I exchanged my Saito 180 to the then new DLE 30 and have never looked back. I'm no glo engine hater and in fact, I quiet enjoy them and have several still in my fleet, though all the big 4 stroke singles are long gone. and trust me I don't have any problem spending money in this hobby. and consider what I have on hand, and how much money in my pocket. I don't have a preference for either other then what makes sense for the project it goes in. 2 STROKE GLOW ENGINES FOR RC AIRCRAFT PDF INSTALLit does get pricey.Ī glow-engine is a no-brainer to install as well. ![]() unless you have all that already of course. as a good 30cc engine can set you back well over $300 by the time you buy the engine(that alone about$280), add a battery or ignition device(plus a battery to run everything if that's how you go), maybe a switch, etc. but really that's only an excuse for wanting a new engine. The Saito will use more glow fuel then a 30cc gas rig will use(in gas). ![]() There's no reason to swap out a good engine unless you want too of course. ![]() Some of these glow engines are real gems. The Saito with the right prop and fuel is no slouch by any means.Įspecially if you have the engine already. maybe not quite as powerful as a 30cc gas rig, but the Saito has that unique and awesome four-stroke sound. The Saito 1.80 will fly anything in the 30cc range just fine. I've seen some interesting planes as far as ARF's go. Have a look at Seagull Models, as well as ESM. ![]()
